Prayer to the God of Sleep

Why do you keep walking through the night?

Your shadow always walks beside you

You should be afraid of the light

May you lay down and rest, reconnect

The earth crumbles under your dirty soles

Can you feel their presence?

The dead bodies under the soil

Never to be woken from their slumber

May you rest your heavy head

On the shoulder of your one true love

How long until you will be forgotten, too?

Will this world remember you?

Your memory of them fades away

Thank the Flood, you have survived that day

You count your blessings on your fingertips

You light a candle, but it no longer warms you

Everything that was lost in the Awakening

Only ruins remain, signs of lives taken by the Void

Which memory do you dare to loose?

What can you gift in exchange for inner peace?

Will the God of Sleep accept your offering?

Hush, darling, you may rest now

Go gentle into that good night, moon child

Merely whispers may be heard

Prayers to the God of Sleep

Heavily inspired by playing the indie game Seasons: A Letter to the Future; it was a religious experience for an agnostic like me
